Is it possible to walk on water and why do boats float?

April 29, 2010 - 5:29 pm 5 Comments

Why do boats float?? Also, since boats are obviously heavier/more dense then water, why can’t we walk on water?

"Also, since boats are obviously heavier/more dense then water, why can’t we walk on water?"

Boats are NOT heavier or more dense than water, that is why they float. The weight of the boat must be less than the weight of the water displaced by the boat or they sink.

Some of the material, like the steel hull, is of a high density, but that is offset by all the air space inside the hull. The average density, and that is what counts, is low, less than the water.

Where is the best time share vacation to go on in FLORIDA?

April 29, 2010 - 5:29 pm 1 Comment

I seriously need a vacation, but I cant afford it. I know you can find good deals through time share tours. Has anyone experienced, a time share vacation in Florida. I do not want to stay in a crappy place. I am looking for at least a 4 star resort, something clean with no weird odors, and the interior needs to be up to date. Please help I am a new mom and I need to get away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You may not fully understand how timeshare tours work…

These sales presentations are carefully designed to be extremely successful.. Part of the process often involves reserving your family a room in a comfortable (but small) motel room at a discounted rate.. You don’t normally stay at the resort itself! You are then obligated to complete the entire sales presentation and tour of the specific timeshare property (if not completed, you are charged full price for the lodging and any other free gifts you received)..

The sales presentation is artfully crafted to ensure a high closing rate. Even the psychological impact created from the vast difference in quality between the motel room and the timeshare resort is a major sales tool! Even very savvy timesharing families will often find themselves caught up in the excitement and pressure of the sales team, and end up walking away with one of the most expensive "low cost" vacations ever!

Timeshare tours are a great way to learn about one thing- the specific timeshare program you are touring… These should not be considered a way to supplement the cost of a vacation!

You may be better served looking at a few timeshare marketing sites that offer timeshare rentals from people who already own at the resort and are not using their week! You can often find great deals (although you will normally always pay a little more than motel rates for the area) on incredible vacation villas featuring private bedrooms, full kitchens, private spas, gorgeous resort amenities, planned activities for the kids, etc.

www.TimesharesOnly.com is the largest timeshare marketplace in the world and would be a great place to start. You might also visit sites such as www.timeshareforums.com (a social media site for timeshare owners), www.simplytimeshare.com (an internet based timeshare classified site), or possibly myresortnetwork.com (another internet based site).. Make sure you ask if a third-party escrow system is available to protect you throughout the rental.

I’d recommend you avoid sites like eBay or Craigslist. While you can find great deals on both, there seems to be numerous reports of fraud and misleading advertisements from both those venues that can trap people not familiar with the industry.

I hope some of the above has been helpful.. Congrats on the new baby!

What are the course like in cross country skiing like and what gear should i ger?

April 29, 2010 - 5:29 pm 2 Comments

im taking up cross country skiing so how are most of the trails like? r there some hills? what gear should i get? just tell me ,ostly about the trails?

Well, it depends on where you go. Some XC Trails are flat and some are very steep. Usually, most XC Trails are flat with short rolling hills. And while XC course almost never attain the steepness of downhill resorts, I’ve skied some pretty steep trails on my XC skis. All the trail networks I’ve ever been to are very well marked and it is easy to avoid trails above your ability level.

If you are just picking it up I suggest holding off buying equipment until you do it a couple of times as there are two distinct types of XC skiing.

First is Classic skiing or Striding. The classic style is often used on prepared trails that have pairs of parallel grooves cut into the snow. This style is made up of an exaggerated running action with parallel skis and a glide on each stride. The poles are planted alternately on the opposite side to the kick. For experienced skiers this technique is used uphill. This style of skiing is a great way to start XC skiing as it is fairly easy and allows you to go further and longer much more easily.

The next is Skate skiing. Skate skiing is much more arobic and is faster than striding. Skate skiing involves the skier pushing one ski outward with the ski angled, so that the inner edge of the ski is driven against the snow, much like an ice skater. As in classic skiing, transferring weight completely from one ski to the next is essential to learning to skate. Those who have learned to ice skate or rollerblade may find ski skating technique easier to learn than classic skiing.

As you can imagine both of these styles require specific equipment so you might want to establish which style you prefer before you buy. I personnaly prefer Skating as it is more arobic, faster and offers more of a challenge but many people love Striding. It’s really up to you, I just suggest you not commit to a specific style before you try them both.

Good luck and have fun.

Throw it on CraigsList and see what happens.

Be careful about selling here, this is not a sales forum.

Best place to advertise time share unit for sale?

April 26, 2010 - 3:53 pm 3 Comments

My friend has been trying to sell her time share unit located in Kill Devil Hills, N.C. I’m trying to help her with this but am not sure where to advertise. Can someone suggest the best place to advertise where it would get looks and perhaps a buyer? Thanks for viewing my question.

To resale or rent a timeshare is a hard task, the basic rule is not to pay money up-front, don’t be another victim of a scam. There are some free classified adds where you can post it and get some results:

What’s the difference between a carve turn and a parallel turn in skiing?

April 26, 2010 - 3:52 pm 5 Comments

I’m new to skiing but progressing fast. Someone at Winter Park said that there’s a difference between a carve turn and a parallel turn. What are these turns and what’s the difference?

A parallel turn is when both skis follow the same parallel path throughout the turn. A carved parallel turn is when the edges of your skis are engaged in the snow with no skidding through the arc of the turn. A pure carved turn will leave two thin "railroad tracks" in the snow after the turn. It requires good balance and edge control all of the way in the turn.

Are there any transatlantic cruises that depart from and return to the US?

April 23, 2010 - 6:01 pm 3 Comments

I want to avoid flying. Are there any cruises that exist that let you depart and return to the, let’s say, East Coast? I have only found a few that depart from the East Coast period, and all of them are "one-way" and would result in me buying a plane ticket from Europe back to the US…

try Cunard.

thats an "ocean liner" as opposed to a cruise ship. these ocean liners do the transatlantic routes.
i would call them

How do I make my boats fiberglass and gel-coat look new?

April 23, 2010 - 6:01 pm 2 Comments

Hi I’ve recently bought a used Hobie 16 sailboat. The boats in good condition, but it has some small cracks. I don’t think any of the cracks leak water but they don’t look the way I want it to. I want to get rid of the cracks and re-paint both hulls. How do I do that (please step by step instructions)? Also a list of materials and pricing would be appreciated.

1/ Grind, using a 4 to 10 inch 36 grit grinder, all cracked or unstable glass.
Cracks may be as deep as gel coat or right into glass. Any cracks will reform.
2/Replace all fiberglass removed with new glass/resin in the appropriate amount.
3/ Sand all new glass 36 grit on largest comfortable board.
4/ Fill any remaining low spots with a finer filler and smooth to original shape.
5/ Refinish using gel coat
-OR-
5/ Apply spray putty over whole repaired areas.
Sand and refinish with poly urethane.

It’s not to hard if you take your time. Sand fiberglass before its fully hard and leave putty or gel a bit longer.Good luck
